First-ever use of 3D technology getzspace®
With getzspace®, Getzner Textil AG is providing the answer to the latest trends in the area of local public transport. With this 3D technology, passenger seats in regional trains can be made more sustainable and more budget-friendly. It also unlocks many other potential areas of use beyond this.
Grammer AG's seat cover for the rail passenger seat "New Regio" was shown for the first-ever time at the InnoTrans trade show in Berlin. The collaboration proved to be promising right from the start. After around a year of development work, the overall concept now sets new benchmarks when it comes to sustainability coupled with comfort. Particularly worth mentioning is the lower weight: the padding integrated into the fabric makes any additional foam upholstery superfluous – without any comfort sacrifice. This not only results in a lighter seat construction, but also in optimised properties with regard to flammability. It makes various manufacturing process steps completely redundant and therefore makes the production process quicker, as the 3D fabric requires a minimum of assembly input, which saves costs.
Wide range of possibilities
"What is so unusual about getzspace® is that the flat-woven fabric itself becomes the finished upholstery, thanks to its three-dimensional structure – and all of this without any seams. The aim of using 3D fabrics is to achieve more robustness and a longer lifespan, compared to products that require assembly," explains Getzner Textil product innovation manager Walter Kikelj. The 3D technology unlocks numerous new design approaches. It could potentially be used in the clothing sector, for example, especially with regard to clothing with integrated protective properties. Other areas in the mobility sector could also benefit from the 3D technology. The patents for getzspace® have been applied for.
