Metal technology in female hands
When Aliya Bitschnau is at work, sparks tend to fly. Literally. She was practically born with a talent for mechanical engineering from her father - and at Getzner Textil, her dream job came with a great working atmosphere and opportunities for development on top.
As a child, Aliya still dreamed of becoming a vet. However, a detour to the HLW quickly brought two realisations: ‘Cooking is not my thing’ and ‘I would rather earn money than study’. After several taster sessions at various well-known Vorarlberg companies, she chose Getzner Textil. The family-run company based in Bludenz is one of the world's leading manufacturers of fabrics for African fashion, shirts and blouses as well as corporate fashion and technical textiles. ‘I immediately noticed that the people here are super nice and that you are allowed to make mistakes and learn from them,’ she recalls.
The woman for (almost) everything
Aliya started her apprenticeship in mechanical engineering six years ago - since then, terms such as welding, rolling, changing pumps or hydraulics and pneumatics have been part of her ‘everyday life’. ‘There's no such thing as everyday life,’ laughs Aliya, who particularly appreciates the diversity of her job: ’My job requires a lot of problem-solving expertise.’ No matter whether something needs to be repaired or newly assembled at Getzner Textil: Aliya is the right woman for the job. She is supported by her six work colleagues. ‘Being the only woman in the department took a bit of getting used to at first,’ recalls the 20-year-old. ‘But my colleagues treated me as one of them straight away. And it helps if you don't put your foot in your mouth,’ she grins.
An apprenticeship at Getzner Textil because ...
Even during her apprenticeship, Aliya realised that Getzner Textil was the right company for her to develop personally and professionally: Free tutoring during working hours, the opportunity to do an apprenticeship with A-levels, discounted meals through the Digibon, extra days of holiday and bonuses of up to 10,000 euros for particularly committed apprentices - not every company offers this. In addition to the varied work, Aliya particularly appreciates her colleagues and working together as equals. With the ‘Getzner Academy’ and many other further training opportunities, Getzner Textil also offers a wide range of development opportunities - both professionally and personally.
