Development at Getzner Textil

‘Wanted to try my luck’

Ankur Jaiswal moved from India to Vorarlberg over ten years ago. Today, he works in quality assurance at Getzner Textil and tells his personal story, which has a lot to do with appreciation and opportunities for development. How did it all begin? Love was the reason for the leap into the unknown ...

‘Getzner Textil supports the personal and professional expertise of its employees.’ Ankur Jais-wal, Quality Assurance

The best stories start with great emotions. Ankurs is no exception: ‘I met my wife in India when she was on holiday there. After two years of a long-distance relationship, we decided to try our luck in Vorarlberg.’ The two have now been married for 13 years. Getzner Textil is within easy walking distance of their home. Just a few months after arriving in Vorarlberg, Ankur was given the opportunity to start working in yarn dyeing. ‘With my initial knowledge of German, finding a job was difficult. But I was well received at Getzner Textil right from the start and was then able to attend German courses during working hours,’ Ankur recalls.

Having started out in production, Ankur Jaiswal now works in quality assurance at Getzner Textil.

Boldly breaking new ground

A few years later, it was clear to Ankur that he wanted to develop further: ‘I was given the opportunity to do further training in textile chemistry while working. When I then applied internally for a job in quality assurance, it was a big step for me. Looking back, I don't regret it one bit. I received a lot of appreciation and support, which is not something I take for granted.’

If something goes wrong in production or customers complain, these complaints often end up on Ankur's desk: ‘It's always exciting for me to see what kind of problems can occur in fabric production - sometimes I'm really surprised myself,’ smiles Ankur. ‘Of course, the work can also be challenging. But when we can solve the problems together, it's an even better feeling.’

Culture shock Austria

‘During my first time in Austria, I was surprised that there was so little going on here. You can go for a walk here at six o'clock in the evening and hardly meet anyone on the street - there wouldn't even be that little going on in the middle of the night in India! But now I like it quieter, less noise and no car horns.’ Ankur is still connected to his home country of India, as his family lives there and he visits them every year. ‘My family has always supported me. It certainly wasn't easy at first, but I now feel at home here and don't see myself as a foreigner at all - even in the company.’ Ankur can currently be seen as a large-format testimonial on billboards and on social media as part of the ‘Unfold yourselves’ campaign. Even though they are more than 6,000 kilometres apart - what mother wouldn't say: ‘So proud of you.’
